Gran Classic de Olot
Still recovering from a cracking cycling race on Sunday - the 134km Olot Grand Classic. This is one of the biggest events on the Catalan calendar, and it had everything - great organisation, support, crowds, a quality field and some really nippy climbs and fast descending.
The 100 strong field completed two small 'softener' loops around Olot before heading South through Angles to Girona and then North again through Banyoles before finishing on Olot main street. We had a rolling road closure for the full route and the attacks were incessant over a 42km/h average speed.
I was pretty competitive until the last hilly 15km where i dropped off the main bunch. Still happy with performance in such good company - i finished 43rd @ 6.39 on the winner (from FC Barcelona). My brother Stuart fared better. Although closely marked all day he finished a solid 18th @ 1.56.
All told, great preparation for the Scottish Champs on the 18th September where our team, C21 Multisport RT/Specialised is looking good.
